What is the Installation Process?
Each space is unique and come with their own specific requirements depending on a number of factors. Due to this, the installation process itself as well as the time it takes to complete the installation may vary. This being said, here is a basic guideline on what to expect:
Step 1: The first step is to remove the existing top layer of earthwork at times where the area is uneven we move some of the soil to fill up areas if necessary up to the required level for the installation .We then install a cobble boarder around your selected area of installation with concrete base after that we then water, compact, and level the remaining soil.
Step 2: A weed membrane (Weed barrier) is installed over the aggregated area to prevent any growth from the bottom of your artificial grass.
Step 3: Next we lay down a crushed rock aggregate (a mixture of small rocks and stones) to the new base. This provides added stability and sufficient drainage underneath the artificial grass. The new aggregated area is also watered, compacted and levelled.
Step 4: The installation of your artificial grass is now taking place. The grass is put down in place and cut to exact measurement, Once all the grass is in place the installation team is then using a strong and durable glue all around the edges, a glue strip and glue is used for the joining from the bottom.
Step 5: Finally a white silica sand infill is applied over the artificial grass and evenly spread out with a special blower and then mechanically brushed to bring it to the upright and soft position, this helps for the stability and also to prevent it from moving or damaging.
Is our grass pet-friendly?
In short, yes! Most our grass are designed with all manner of pets in mind because, the grasses have been designed to prevent moisture retention in the fibres. Simply remove any “gifts” left by your fur babies and hose the area down with a hose pipe. Any remaining mater is then filtered into your soil through the drainage holes. If there is still a persistent odour, we have products you can purchase to spray on the area to remove any unpleasant smells lingering on the surface of the grass.
Does it get hot?
Artificial grass is designed with sunny South Africa in mind and as a result it does not get any hotter than paving or decking. As an added bonus, it also stays 43% cooler than any other artificial grasses on the market!
Does artificial grass have adequate drainage?
Yes, it does – the mat the grass is stitched to has drainage holes every 10cm, and as a result it has even better drainage than traditional lawns.
Will my artificial lawn fade in colour?
Artificial grass has been designed to be UV-stabilised but can fade up to 5% over the entire area within 15 years. This amount of fading is extremely minimal and nothing to be concerned about. To put this in perspective – Paving fades up to 30% within 6 months, making artificial grass an excellent alternative if you’re looking for vibrancy that lasts!
Is artificial grass flammable?
We do not suggest having braais or bonfires on our grasses as damage caused by fire is not covered in the warranty we offer. This being said however, our artificial grass was designed with safety in mind and is not flammable. Should a piece of hot coal land on it, it will simply melt instead of catching alight.
How long does artificial grass last?
With all(most of) our grasses you receive an 8-year warranty but our grasses have been known to surpass this significantly, with some customers having their artificial grass for over 15 years. In fact, during one of the House and Garden Shows, a Parisian woman saw our stall and came to let us know that, at the time, she had had our grass in her home in Paris for over 20 years – and that it still looked good as new!
Do I still need to maintain artificial grass?
Our artificial grass is extremely low maintenance compared to traditional lawns, but it still needs a bit of TLC every now and then. Simply give it a brush (against the direction the grass lays) with a hard bristle broom once a month to keep it looking as good as the day we installed it.
We also offer affordable annual maintenance solutions. 😊
What are the benefits of artificial grass vs. traditional lawns and is our grass eco-friendly?
There are a number of benefits to having artificial grass installed, including:
- Saving money on water, replacing damaged grass in shady or high-traffic areas, lawn-care equipment, and gardeners/garden services
- Saving time and effort on mowing, watering, and weeding your lawn
- Less issues with various creatures and critters considered pests (such as moles and fleas)
- No mud, meaning children and pets can enjoy the garden any time of year (WITHOUT creating a mess!)
- Beautiful green grass all year round
There is another benefit – despite contrary beliefs, our grass can be more eco-friendly than traditional lawns. Below is a message from, Louis Goncalves:
“As a landscaper for over 20 years before joining Easigrass, I am lucky to have experience with both natural, traditional lawns and installing artificial grass. This being said, I am of the opinion that Easigrass has less of an impact on our environment than traditional lawns based on the following factors:
- Wastage of water on keeping traditional lawns watered and healthy
- Fossil fuels used in cutting grass (with electric or petrol lawn mowers) as well as on transportation to and from site by gardeners or garden services
- Soil and ground water pollution through indiscriminate use of insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides to maintain traditional lawns
For these reasons as well as others (such as the overall cost-effectiveness of having our products installed and the pet and family-friendly properties of our grasses), I can happily and whole-heartedly recommend our grass with a clear conscience!”
